The tiny Himalayan kingdom is covered by snow in the north and lush tropical vegetation in the south. Only 2% of the land is arable, and half of that is on steep mountainsides. Bhutanese red rice is a local staple and the most well known export. Agriculture provides livelihoods to half of the population.
