Our approach to the Davis Mountains in west Texas was exciting, as we had no idea what to expect. We knew we were in the Chihuahuan Desert and had begun learning the plant names. We hoped then and for the next three weeks to see javelina (collared peccaries), but never did; we were luckier with some of the birds.
