Blue crayfish (Cambarus monongalensis)

Canaan Valley, West Virginia

Twice a year (for over 30 years) I clean out a small drainage ditch in our backyard. I've observed this species of crayfish several times over those years.
Yesterday morning, I encountered three of these while completing the cleanout process.
These two images (see 'next') taken at 3,760' elevation. Best viewed in 'original' size.
