The Old North Church is firmly ensconced in American history folklore as the place where lanterns were hung to warn when the British soldiers were coming ("One if by land. Two if by sea."). Silversmith Paul Revere got all of the credit, and went down in history as the hero, even though he was stopped by a British patrol and never made it to Concord. Dr. Samuel Prescott actually completed the ride to Concord to warn colonists of the approaching troops.
