Day Three

On to Fort Smith today. It wasn't a very long drive and we arrived just before noon to the Fort Smith National Historic Park. It started out as a frontier fort. The small fort was eventually replaced with a larger fort. That eventually became a jail and a courtroom. It was the courtroom of Judge Isaac Parker for about 20 years. True Grit, starring John Wayne, was set with his character Rooster Cogburn being a deputy marshal of Judge Parker. Hang 'em High with Clint Eastwood was also based on Judge Parker's court. If you haven't seen them, they are very good movies.

We also stopped off at a brothel. Brothels seem to be quite a historic attraction in many places. Miss Laura's place was an interesting tour. The building had gone through several incarnations after is ceased being a brothel in 1924. It was a good tour.

Today's photo is of Ginny enjoying a picnic lunch at the historic site. We found a nice table in the shade with a little breeze. Life is good.
