Late summer is when these large long-horned beetles appear, almost always on goldenrod where they can easily be lost amid the flowers. The larvae feed on black locust trees, which around here are considered invasive, so possibly these insects might help control them. Both the beetle and the tree are native species, however, though the tree is native further south.
