Cliché

Seligman, AZ

Although there are a lot of great things to see and photograph on Route 66, there is also a lot of things like this that are a little too cliché for me. Here this otherwise nice truck is made up to look one of the cartoon vehicles from the "Cars" movie franchise.

Excellent image, but sad if these things have lost what they stood for Dan.

Grew up going out to Southern California every Christmas and witnessed the replacement of Route 66 by I-40. The whole time my parents would tell us stories of their respective adventures of traveling out west on 66 My father in the early 30’s and my mother moving as part of the early world war 2 effort in 42. Have a lot of good and fun memories while all this was going on. Even in as a young adult I spent a lot of time going back and forth. A lot of history on this road. We I got much older and to the point where I could I went back to revisit Route 66. Most of what I remember is gone or abandoned and covered with graffiti. The point of this is that route 66 is a mere bones along the old bones of I-40. The whole thing is a cliché. My photo of the day I realized ithttp://www.pbase.com/zeusatolympus/image/94512563
Just an aside. The best bowl of chile with beans ever was once served at a restaurant between Gallup and Winslow. It was a wonderful place to stop on a cold winter night. Usually right before or right after your encounter the blizzard the was almost always hitting Flagstaff. Now it’s jus a burned out pile of rocks at the end of an obscure off ramp.
The other place is something I usually don’t go for and that would be the mighty little town of Oatman, AZ. Go in the winter, it’s the season. and photo ops abound! An excellent place to watch people, burros, gunfights, bikers, cowboys, snowbirds and “first time out westers” all in a 3 block stretch of route 66! If you pay attention it is very funny! I always leave with dirt on my back from rolling on the ground laughing! Thanks Dan! V

unfortunate the fallout from crass advertising...still the truck is of interest, and the police vehicle too..
