Sebastian, rescued from an abusive owner

A series of pictures of Sebastian, who was quite the character and source of entertainment while we were waiting for our tour to start.

I don’t recall the names and stories of all the animals we met, although I didn’t hear them all as I was busy taking pictures, but Sebastian I do remember. He was locked in a closet by a man along with a lot of dead animals. Neighbors called the police when they saw more dead animals in the guy’s yard, and Sebastian was rescued and brought to the sanctuary, where he’ll be able to live the rest of his life.

*****

The Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary is a 400-acre nonprofit refuge in Poolesville, Maryland, that offers care, rehabilitation and permanent sanctuary for neglected, abused or abandoned farm animals as well as providing a protected habitat for wildlife. They promote compassion and the humane treatment of all animals by educating the public on farm animal and wildlife issues.

A husband and wife team along with 100 volunteers and 8 staff care for more than 300 rescued farm animals, each with a name and a story of their rescue, and most of them quite friendly to humans. They’ve been in operation for 21 years, receive no public funding and survive only on donations.

For more information on the refuge, go to http://www.animalsanctuary.org

A cool close encounter. Sebastian is a lucky fellow to have been rescued from such a horrible situation.

I totally agree with Raymond. It defies belief that anyone could treat animals the way these ones have been treated. The good thing is they, and this beautiful boy, get a new chance at a happy life. What a lovely photo! V

I never get why people hurt and or neglec animals. If you don't want one or even don't like animals, then don't get one!
