It was a very busy day. Thanks to Bloke's help and expertise, we managed to get all the cylinders mounted on the engine. Getting them on is a bit touchy. You start with the piston partially pushed into the cylinder to cover the top three rings. Then you hold the thing up and attach the piston to the connecting rod then with a ring compressor in place, you push the last ring into the cylinder. In order to get the cylinder completely on you have to push pretty hard because you have to push the piston all the way up into the cylinder. That is not easy and you run the risk of marring the studs. The simple way is the judicious and precise application of a suitable level of force in the direction of the crankcase. Basically, hit it with a hammer which Bloke is doing in today's photo. By the end of my day all six cylinders were attached. The rest of the assembly will take a while. There are lots of things that need attaching and two very difficult bolts. Sometimes you wonder if the designers of these infernal devices were closet sadists.

My thoughts on all mechanical things are that the designers need to spend time assembling and disassembling their designs and then make reasonable improvements. I have worked with many designers who never touched their products.

Yes, I wonder about the intelligence of designers, too. I had a Volvo on which the front bumper had to be removed to replace a headlamp bulb! Designed to make money for the dealers, no doubt.
