Workers' homes from Tilburg, 1950

Arnhem, Arnheim

A time journey through four Tilburg homes
You enter 1860 through the front door of the left house: the year of construction of these
Tilburg workers' houses. Hygiene is bad and there are epidemics - the drinking water well is
right next to the manure trap and the toilet. Walking through the following houses you follow
the development of the living conditions and the hygiene in the next 110 years. Child mortality
still rages in the second house, which keeps Tilburg in its grip around 1910. This is caused by
the poorly cleanable rubber hoses and teats of baby bottles. Through the neat '50s interior of
the neighborhood sister in the third house, with modern kitchen and granite countertop, you walk
to the' 70s. The time of macramé and lots of orange, but especially also of increasingly
better maternity care. Placed here in 1958. Moved in 1998
