Silver carp (Hypohthalmichthys molitrix) and shrimp Chibuto fish market

Silver carp are also not native to the Limpopo River system, but are certainly are now established there. They could be (and have been elsewhere) used in co-culture or polyculture with tilapia, utilizing a slightly different part of the ecosystem. They will not spawn in ponds on their own but can be artificially spawned and incubated. Or a few could be obtained alive from commercial fishermen and stocked into the tilapia ponds. Like the Nile and 3-Spot tilapias, aquaculture escapees led to the establishment of this species in the Limpopo River system.
