Silver carp are also not native to the Limpopo River system, but are certainly are now established there. They could be (and have been elsewhere) used in co-culture or polyculture with tilapia, utilizing a slightly different part of the ecosystem. They will not spawn in ponds on their own but can be artificially spawned and incubated. Or a few could be obtained alive from commercial fishermen and stocked into the tilapia ponds. Like the Nile and 3-Spot tilapias, aquaculture escapees led to the establishment of this species in the Limpopo River system.
