“’A Winter’s Sleigh Ride’ by Thomas Birch, 1840”
I just love to view this thematic and romantic Chester County country scene.
I remember seeing this painting during previous visits and also remember it as a Holiday Card.
Summarizing from the audio:
“This painting by Thomas Birch depicts nature’s cycle of life with the dead tree stump on the right
and the living tree on the left. This Birch painting helped to make winter a popular subject among
American artists in the 19th Century. This image was reproduced in 1984 by UNICEF for their annual Christmas Card.”
