Today we headed back to Houston. We got a very early start, leaving the hotel by 6:15. Any later than that you end up driving the the highway 400 parking lot. I really don't like driving in traffic. Our objective was the Golden Flake potato chip factory in Birmingham. We tour a lot of different kinds of factories. It is fun to see how things are really made. There was a TV show about that at one time that was very interesting.
When we arrived the tour lady saw us (we were very early) and came out to offer us a personal tour of the place, which we quickly accepted. Our original tour time would have coincided with a group of 40 second graders. We were lucky. So we got to see potato chips, corn chips and pork rinds in the making. That was fun. This company had been bought out by UTZ last year. Unfortunate for the office people becaause they were mostly laid off and their jobs transferred to Pennsylvania. Of course the manufacturing personnel were retained. That is the way it goes. Bummer.
After the tour we headed on to Ponchatoula, LA for the night.
