Tonight was the annual Halloween Party at Vicki's house. She and her family do a crack up job of decorating and planning and it is a nice to do. I have attended several times in the past. Ginny has gone a couple times without me. I decided this year I need to go along because it is the right thing to do; however, it is painful. There were probably 40 people there. Mostly couples, hence I felt the obligation to attend. Of those people there were only five whom I would recognize on the street. Ginny knew a lot of them because many are her goofy girlfriends that she socializes with every month at the birthday lunch.
The evening was very well done. Excellent food and about any drink you would like. There was a game to be played which was throwing a winged ball at a target. I was one of six who managed to hit the target. The reason for my success was that I practiced throwing the thing a bunch of times to see how it flew while the others were crowded around waiting for their turns. I discovered that you had to throw hard and that the wings glued to the ball did not affect the direction of flight. I didn't win anything except the eternal admiration of Ginny, which faded as soon as I returned to the crowd.
We totally missed the fact that the theme was Harry Potter and the expected costume was to be appropriate to that. Ginny dressed up as a Spanish dancer and I dressed up like it was Mardi Gras. As usual she looked very nice. It turned out that we weren't the only ones who didn't get the hint. During the party I found myself looking for a place to sit and tune things out. I did spend some time talking with our friend Ulf. All in all it was not an unpleasant evening. Thank God it only happens once a year.
