We are still unearthing our stuff. My guess is that there were over 500 boxes of stuff. Could be more. It is going slowly because Ginny is taking the opportunity to examine everything before putting it somewhere. This is quite an exercise and she deserves high marks for patience and industry.
Over the years my mom and Ginny's mom gave us lots of very nice things. These are the kind of things you might want to have on display in the house. I remember my grandparents having a few nice things to display around the house. Things like Hummel figurines and crystal dishes and vases. The amount of stuff was limited. My mom and dad had quite a bit more stuff. Ginny's mom has an unbelievable amount of stuff. I think my parents' generation had more disposable income than the grandparents.
For Ginny and me, we have all this stuff given to us by our parents. There is so much of it that it cannot be displayed and the items for the most part are not in line with our decor. So there is no incentive to keep it. Collectables are passe in many cases. When we pull stuff out and see what it is selling for on ebay, there are few things of great current value.
Today's photo is of one of those items. I think it is very beautiful. It is a Lladro figurine titled "So Shy." It has no place in our house. It has to go away. That is unfortunate. That is reality.
Another way of expressing what you have said is that when a person dies, the value placed by that person on an object probably dies with him or her. Something treasured by an ancestor could have no value at all for a descendant. We are all transitory.
