As mentioned many times before, cooking is great fun. Recently we have been experimenting with various oriental dishes. Ginny is especially interested in Thai food. Our first sojourn was with a nice red curry. I made it twice, once with pork and once with shrimp. Shrimp is definitely my favorite. Ginny's all time favorite is Pad Thai. That was a new one for our kitchen although we have enjoyed it many times in restaurants. One of the ingredients is tamarind paste. That was a new component which they don't stock on the shelves at Kroger. We found a local oriental market that stocked it and we were in business. There are many recipes on the internet and quite a number of videos on YouTube. So I wrote down my version of the recipe, put all the components on the counter (mis en place) and started into the project. This was definitely a learning curve experience. One thing I learned is that I need a much bigger cooking vessel. I also learned that tamarind paste is very concentrated. In the end we harvested a very good meal which will be even better next time around, which will be tomorrow or Sunday. Damn, this is fun.
