Blanding's turtle (Emydoidea blandingii)

Almonte area

This species is listed as threatened under both the provincial and federal legislation. This one was about to cross the dirt road we were driving down, so I carried it across in the direction it was going, took a few photos, and then put it in the grass where it carried on... away from the road.

A really neat turtle, I often have these in my yard, there is a wetland in the back part of our property that seems attractive to this species.

A rough journey, nicely captured Christine and a lovely good deed. V.

Late June is when the females wander out of the wetlands looking for a place to lay their eggs. This one may have been going back to her wetland and you did a good thing helping her cross the road safely.

Lovely photo, I did the same this weekend - took his photo and helped him cross. I thought they were threatened thanks for confirming.

Lovely color and texture. I have done the same thing. I do not know why they are attracted to roads like snakes---which they seek for the warmth. Voted.

They are considered threatened around here also, I saw a rather large one a couple of weeks ago and did the same thing. Nice shot of this one. My iPhone shot didn't turn out near as good.

Excellent! I'd love to see one. I've helped a couple of painted turtles across the road here this year. :-)
