This time, azaleas with bee

I am really terrified of insects and prefer just to see them in other people’s pictures, but I was trying (unsuccessfully due to the light) to photograph our tiny garden in bloom when I noticed a lot of bees concentrating on one of my azaleas. I finally got up the nerve up to get close enough to take pictures, and amazingly they left me alone.

I am NOW a little more respectful of bees ever since receiving three stings a couple of years ago when I accidentally lost my footing outside and startled them. Besides the pain of the stings I dropped a camera and only damaged the lens hood, which I ALWAYS use! I also did some research and learned that the worst thing you can do is wave your arms or move frantically. Those actions only make the bees more wary and likely to sting. For all insect photography I move very, very slowly. Some longer lenses, like my Canon 300 f/4 L IS allow me to keep a respectful distance from my subjects and thus be less of a thread to them. You have to check your longer lenses and see which will focus the closest. You'll feel safer with them! I suspect the Nikon VR lenses would be best for your closeup work. You sure nailed the focus on this one! Kudos!
