It pays to be prepared.
Our most excellent tour director Roberto got our most excellent tour driver Umberto to pull over so that we could get some shots of San Gimignano off in the distance.
The bus is big.
The road is small.
So it was a mad dash to try to fire off a couple of shots before we had to get out of the way of any other traffic.
I was woefully under-prepared for this to happen and only had the 12-40 on, which is probably not the best lens for multi-kilometre distance shots. There was no time to fish out the 40-150 which, had I known that we planned to stop, I would have had at the ready. Actually I would have had the damn thing already on the front of the camera.
Still, with a bit of judicious cropping the 12-40 delivered up a decent level of detail while still putting the place in perspective.
