These two portraits of my wife were taken for a book jacket.
Given the content of the book – a memoir that she co-authored
with her mother – she selected portrait 1 as more appropriate
than portrait 2. I agree with her choice. The “family” vibe of 1
is a better fit than the “professional” vibe of 2.

Agreed; they're both very good, evenly lit across her face with a good gradient in the background but this one has a more friendly and open look. The other one would work well for a book on business.
