The latest addition to the educational section of the Wheeler National Refuge Visitor Center. This Whooping Crane died of a bacterial infection in the wild. Being in good physical condition it was decided to have the bird mounted so future generations would have a up close view of the rare endangered species. One interesting point about these birds, who are tracked by a radio transmitter and color coded bands on their legs......is this particular bird sired many of the Whooping Cranes who now consider Wheeler National Refuge as their Winter home.
