Ugly nest caterpillars (Archips cerasivorana), #3661

Reveler Conservation Area

Thanks to Bug Guide for the identification of these Tortricid moth caterpillars. They are usually found on Prunus trees, as these were, and build leafy nests by tying the leaves together. They feed inside these nests. Bug Guide comments that they do little damage overall as they are not that commonly found, though occasionally can be abundant in some years.
