'Muskox,' by Matthew Polvorosa Kline

“Muskox,” Dovrefjell-Sunndalsfjella National Park, Oppland, Norway, by Matthew Polvorosa Kline, Lagunitas, California, USA. This image was the winner in the Polar Passion category.

Kline says: “I had the unforgettable opportunity to photograph wild muskoxen. These wondrous mammals are living relics from a prehistoric age. I located a group on top of a mountain and sat in the bitter cold as a snowstorm arrived. One muskox confidently came near me and lay down to rest, while this bull – with his prominent horns and frosted wool – kept a watchful eye as he drifted slowly among the rocks.”

These images are nothing short of incredible. The shooting conditions for the upper image makes getting this capture an endurance test of the photographer. Keep posting more of these amazing images. V
