We spent Friday traveling from NYC to Lima and spent a short night at the airport hotel. We were up early the next morning for the short flight to Huaraz. Based on our experience with LC Peru (cancelled return flight because they decided they didn't fly on Sundays anymore, yet didn't think to inform their travelers of this) and their infamous reputation, it was with a sigh of relief that we actually landed at the small airport in Anta, a village about 25 km from Huaraz. Given its proximity to the mountains and size (population 120,000 and the capital of Ancash), Huaraz is the major hub for tourism in this region.
