I had planned to spend Canada Day in my own way visiting one or more of the lockstations I hadn’t been to yet rather than being part of the crowd downtown as I had done in past years, but by the time I reached the Long Island Locks only 20 minutes away from where I live the day that started off as sunny with fluffy clouds in the sky turned cloudy with threatening clouds. I returned the next day to try again and found the locks to be quite busy with several boats going up and down. Here one of the lockmasters operates the swing bridge over the locks. This swing bridge is operated manually like the one at Narrows Locks.
