There are dozens of extraordinarily beautiful sandy beaches on Harris but few of them beat Traigh Lar after a decent swell at low tide at sunrise or sunset. For whatever reason the coarse grained orange sand beach maps out the pull of the ocean to form the most astoundingly crisp sand bar patterns. Timing of course is everything but get it right and pick up the first or last rays of light (this was taken at sunrise) and the beach is laden with devastatingly beautiful gold bars that stretch to the distant dunes and hills.
