The scar over this bear's right eye marks her as the mother of four cubs born in 2010, which was an extraordinarily rare event. Two of them survived to adulthood. She is reportedly twenty-four years old. I last saw and shot her with the two survivors in 2011, very close to where this photo was taken at Swan Lake Flats. It was a thrill to see her again after so long. This year, she has two new cubs, probably a much more workable number.
