Orange-humped mapleworm caterpillars (Symmerista leucitys), #7953

Reveler Conservation Area

These were clustered on the underside of a sugar maple leaf. They are quite small and thus early instar caterpillars. Most of these won't survive, and a day later when I went back to check on them, only a couple were left. They become more intensely coloured as they mature. See next photo.
