I traveled up to Eunice today. First stop was the Savoy Music Center. Mark Savoy is the owner. He is a very accomplished accordion player. At the music center he manufactures accordions which are supposed to be the best around. On Saturday mornings he opens the place up for a jam session. All of it Cajun style music. Lots of musicians show up and rotate in and out. The music is very good. A number of the players are retired professional musicians.I found two things interesting. First, I was among the youngest people there. Second, when these guys talk to each other, the speak Cajun. Of course they speak English as well. It went for three hours and it was very good.
The second part of the day I spent at the Jean Lafitte National Historic Park, Prairie Acadian Cultural Center. It was oriented to the Acadians and they had several things going on. There was a nice concert of Cajun music. They were giving Cajun lessons. There was a cooking demonstration. Ranger Angelle (a locally grown ranger) cooked up some smothered okra and sausage. It was very good.
So, the trip to Eunice was a good one. I am glad it was a day of indoor activities because it was raining like heck.
