This Jewish prayer book was printed in Venice by the renown Bragadine Printing House.
The volume, which is complete, features the annual liturgical cycle according to the Ashkenazic rite and is encased in a beautiful silver binding contemporary with the publication of the book.
Depicted on both the front and rear sides of the binding is the coat-of-arms of a prominent Italian Jewish family named Morpurgo.
The image is a whale swallowing a man, clearly eluding to the Biblical story of Johan.
Gift of Iris. B. Newman.
