One of the 40 rudiments for drummers, the paradiddle is one of the basic building blocks of good playing. I learned this in the fall of 1979 from Mr. Casterloin my first music/drum teacher. It has been tapped out every single day since the first day of learning it even when I wasn't playing music. It's insanely repetitive and when played right it just sounds like rlrlrlrlrlrlrlrlrl (right left). sitting in traffic my entire life I rattle out paradiddles with my fingers on my steering wheel, waiting to take off on an airplane I move my toes in my shoes to this lrll rlrr pattern and anywhere else I want my mind in neutral and not thinking I rattle off paradiddles, singles, doubles and triples to push away thoughts of anything other than this simple rudiment. I pickd up the sticks yesterday for the first time in 20 years and can still play these (slower) as it was a week ago. Muscle memory is nothing to argue with-
