Stanley is the capital of the Falklands with a population of
about 2100 people, 75% of the total Falkland Island population.

Before the construction of the Panama Canal, Stanley's deep
water port allowed it to become a major repair port for
ships crossing the Drake Passage.

Various countries have claimed ownership to the Falklands but
in modern times, the 10 week 1982 Falkland War between
Argentina and Britain left disputed control with Britain.
