Norsk Folkemuseum, Gol Stave Church

The island of Bygdøy is home to one of the city’s most exclusive residential areas as well as a number of museums that collectively reflect Norway’s cultural history and national life. While there we spent several hours at the Norsk Folkemuseum, Europe’s original and largest open-air museum, where more than 150 buildings from all over Norway have been assembled. There is also an indoor display area featuring folk costumes and traditional Norwegian folk art.

This is the last of a series of pictures of the Gol Stave Church, built around 1200 in Hallingdal, and relocated here and restored in 1885. It is one of 30 preserved stave churches in Norway.

A final view of this fantastical stave church, with which I was obviously quite taken!

Amazing architecture, superb photo, Helen. V.
In Poland we have one of those norvegian stave churches, relocated from Vang in the Valdres region of Norway, in 1842, Interesting story.
