This stairway takes you from a park near Entokuin up to the car park just outside of Kodai-ji. From the carpark of Kodai-ji you can get a good view of Yasaka Pagoda. During the Higashiyama Hanatouro a few temporary stalls and an information tent are set up in the car park.
Some of the lights are people's flashes going off. One of the first things I learned to do with my very first camera is how to deactivate the flash, why so many people can't do this is a mystery. Most point and shoot camera's flashes have such a small range it's a waste of time (unless you're taking a portrait of someone). Why can't people learn these basic things?!?
The other annoying thing these days is people who walk past with a smart phone or worse still an iPad reading something on the screen. I've had many a good night shot ruined with an ugly white or blue streak! I have to shoot these scenes at Hanatouro over and over sometimes.
