Margaret McCarthy, her husband Jeremiah and their children traveled from Butte Montana to the North Fork in the summer of 1908. They quickly located a homestead claim and quickly built their one room, hand hewn, square notched log cabin by Fall. That winter Jeremiah died of Pneumonia leaving 41 yr old Margaret with 5 children. The family continued to spend summers in the North Fork and in 1913 Margaret received official title to the property.
