Gatineau Executive Airport
Gatineau, P.Q.
The aircraft in the top image is owned by the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum in Hamilton, Ontario; and the one in the bottom image is part of the Vintage Wings of Canada collection and is based in Gatineau, Quebec.
The Lysander was originally ordered by the British Army as a utility and spotter aircraft; and later used by the RAF as a light bomber in the early WWII era. Heavy losses saw it pulled from the latter role.
With its rugged build; and phenomenal short-field capability; the Lysander came into its own as the S.O.E. aircraft-of-choice for providing support to clandestine groups on the continent of Europe; and to drop off and pick up its agents.
