Freedom Of Choice

Warsaw, Poland

Okno zycia - window of life.
A baby hatch where mothers can bring babies, usually newborn, and leave them anonymously in a safe place to be found and cared for.
There are over 50 of them in Poland in 47 towns, two in Warsaw. They are usually run by the nuns, like this one.

A great idea. It gives a safe option of women who cannot take care of the child. Hopefully there are good adoption services and the children find homes. Nowadays, so many use in vitro or surrogates to get pregnant rather than adopt.

Ohhhh. I don't know what to say. I do hope the babies grow up happy... Are the babies able to find their history? Mothers here can tell the hospital that they want their child adopted.

Emotional image. Here in the USA, police stations, fire dept. & hospitals are a place where unwanted infants can be left. Amazingly there are females who never knew they were pregnant! So sad as birth control is readily available. So sad that so many unwanted babies are born.

Very moving. We know that Poles are strongly Catholic; is it still difficult for Polish women to terminate a pregnancy?
