With many, many thanks to Hank Vander Velde for putting out the alert on this exceptionally rare bird at a park thankfully within short bicycling distance of my place while my car was unavailable. This bird is native to Africa, India and south Asia through to northeastern Australia. It strayed here somehow and was first found a couple of weeks ago at a different location. Since then it had wandered widely, never appearing in the same place twice and sometimes not being found for many days. Today it was found early in the morning by Hank at a popular park feeding in the bay near(ish) the shoreline for good views through scopes and camera lenses. It remained at the park all day until around 4 pm when it flew off towards the east and out of view, leaving everyone wondering (especially those traveling from afar) where will it be next?!
