The fateful stones

This was the most popular and convenient way of getting across the wadi to the ksar – walking on these stones which were then covered with bags of stones. It might not look too difficult (and it didn’t look that hard from the shore), but once you get out there you find that the stones are very uneven and spaced pretty far apart. Rostom, our driver, had to help me get across; we were pretty much in each other’s arms a lot of the way. We all made it across the first set of stones, to the middle of the wadi (where this was shot), but on the second stretch of stones was where Tim fell in and broke his foot (and also drowned my RX1). Luckily two policemen had seen it happen and rushed out there to help him across to the final shore, but we still had to climb through the ksar to get to a pedestrian bridge and back to the car.

The fortifications of Ait Benhaddou seen from the wadi, posted earlier:

Nice photo of those lovely houses across the river, not nice accident, though. Hope Tim is already in full recovery. V.

It looks difficult to cross and slippery.

I hope Tim is on his way to a full recovery by now, sorry to hear about his accident and losing your RX1. Just as well the policemen were there to rescue him.

So this is the scene of the accident. It does not sound very stable and I know darn well I would have slipped! I hope that Tim is doing well by now. V

Crossing the river on these bag of stone require a lot of balancing and I had been falling off onto a river similiar to this one in WuXi. V
