We spent the night in the oasis town of Erfoud, after a long but fascinating drive from Fes. There wasn’t much to see in Erfoud with the exception of a fossil factory we visited, so we were next taken to Rissani, the closest town of significant size to Erg Chebbi, the largest sand desert in Morocco. We spent a couple of hours with a Berber-Tuareg tour guide and then were off for our night in the Sahara Desert sand dunes, another highlight of our two-week tour of the country.
This was one of the creations at the fossil workshop in Erfoud. The area is rich in fossils, and this company certainly was capitalizing on that. They sold some lovely pieces, but most were far too heavy to carry or ship back to Saudi Arabia. I ended up buying a little stone camel and something similar to this that I use as a spoon rest.
