Colby Montpelier Stoddard Benham Colby (1816 1867) Graduate of Dartmouth College, 1836; Admitted to the Vermont Bar, 1838; State Representative from Derby, VT, 1841; Appointed Register of the United States Treasury and assumed office, August 12, 1864; Unsuccessfully ran for United States Congress, 1856; Received an honorary LL.D. from Norwich University, 1867.
2. R. M. Gleason Thetford Richard Mills Gleason (1798 - ?) - Settled in Thetford in 1833. He moved to the Norwich in an area known as Gleason's Flatts; He erected mills and dealt heavily in lumber. Served as Justice, Town Agent, and Selectman of Union Village.

Judge Phelps Middlebury, Vt Senator Samuel Shethar Phelps (1793 1855); Graduated from Yale University, 1811; Served as Military Paymaster during War of 1812; Served in Vermont Legislature, 1821 1832; Judge on Vermont Supreme Court, 1832 1838; Served in the United States Senate as a Whig, 1839 1851( Chaired several committees: Committee on the Militia, Committee on Revolutionary Claims, Committee on Pensions, Committee on Patents and the Patent Office, and the Committee on Territories ); Returned to the Senate on January 7, 1853 to fill the expired term of Senator William Upham, who had died in office, and served until March 16, 1854; Father of Edward John Phelps.
