Well, we finally got to Casablanca, after our flight was delayed several hours due to a sandstorm in Riyadh; we arrived even later than we (and Saudia airlines) thought we would because Saudia didn’t know that Morocco had changed to Daylight Saving Time last weekend... Anyway, we were driven an hour and a half to the capital, Rabat, and spent our first night in a lovely riad (like a pension) in the medina (old city), eating a light dinner at 1 a.m., and saw some of the sights in the morning. We then made the long drive to Chefchaouen, in the Rif Mountains in northwestern Morocco, where we will be for two days.

I haven’t had time to even look at my pictures so am just posting one of our riad here. It’s a charming place, but it certainly is good we didn’t have to find it (or the one late last night) on our own because it’s hidden deep in the medina, which is full of narrow, winding “streets” accessible only on foot, and very much uphill and up a lot of stairs (which seem to be very popular here).
