February 1st, the feast day of St Brigid, is regarded as the first day of spring in Ireland.
I think that's a trifle optimistic, seeing as there's still snow on the mountain tops and it's bitterly cold.
But the snowdrops are blooming so that's certainly a hopeful sign.
