20150123_2595 Anywhere Else But There For Once (Fri 23 Jan)

Alfred St, Circular Quay, Sydney

A couple of my fellow PADers seem to fly thousands upon thousands of kilometres on business trips, popping up here there and everywhere around their country and other countries. And as a result, having a limitless supply of ever changing vistas to shoot.

Whaddo I got? Illawarra, Pyrmont, Illawarra, Pyrmont. And since it's usually dark when I leave the former and dark or soon to be when I get home, and since the best light of either end of the day usually sees me contained inside a metal tube rattling up and down a rail line (up and down, up and down) that leaves Pyrmont. In the harsh, glary midday sun. 5 PADs out of 7, week in, week out.

So today I had to go for the annual routine blood tests. After giving the nurse a plausible explanation of why the blood sample was green ("Ummm, I eat a lot of broccolini. A LOT of broccolini. And I had an apple pie last night, made from Granny Smiths. Oh, and some mint icecream with it") I went off to the bus stop to find that I had missed the bus by 5 minutes. So I decided to wander down to Circular Quay, where the bus route starts. I used to pass through there almost every workday when I lived in Sydney, and rarely since I moved.

At least it's not bloody Pyrmont for once, I thought.

Originally I was just shooting a streetscape right down Alfred Street's summer tree canopy. Then this woman plonked herself down in frame so I thought of making her something of an anchor. The problem here is that the shot is now neither Arthur or Martha; it's not a true streetscape and it's not a true candid portrait. This is what happens when there's 3 minutes until the bus is due and you don't have time to think through the shot. But on the other hand, there are other shots that I way overthink. A happy medium needs to be found.

Somewhere other than Pyrmont at midday, preferably.

Thats the hard part, same stuff all the time and how do you find something new. You do a great job of it. I like the street scene and having people in it it makes it more alive.

I hope your blood work is fine. I like the street scene. It is hard to photograph the same areas over and over. I run into this a lot where I live. However, people are always changing. I like the POV through the street. V

I hear you! I suppose I do have the variety of town and countryside, but during the winter months, I usually end up with just a few minutes during by lunch break.
I like this shot and the girl adds to the relaxed summer time feel.
