21st January 2015 - black and white and blue

I think I must be in love…In the 21 days of this year’s blog, DM has featured in five shots. That’s one in four pics from this year is of him. He’s in black and white tonight because of a fairly crappy, hand-held shot at a 60th of a second, f2.8 at iso1600. I’m not sure whether it’s just that my 5d feels old now and technology has moved on or whether Nikons are actually better at high iso than Canons. Either way, the only way I could make the image tolerable was to desaturate it…I used to be so rude about the fact that photo a day was full of people covering up their photographic ineptitude by turning it into a black and white shot to make it look “moody” and here am I doing just that…still at least I acknowledge it eh?

He’s hunched up over the laptop watching the footie. Why? Because our Sky box is dead (again) for the second time in less than a year. I don’t know whether it’s Sky sending a bolt of lightning into it because we dared to buy a recon one from the secondary market after the last one blew up last year or if we’ve just been unlucky.

DM was moaning like mad about Sky at lunchtime because of it. His point was that because they control the boxes – you can’t go into a shop and buy one, you have to have what they provide – they buy the cheapest old crap they can and it’s not of good enough quality for the job. That makes him blue.

Although I can see his point, I am a pretty loyal Sky fan on the whole. OK, OK, I know there are zillions of channels and they are mostly crap but I’d pay my subscription any day for two things – Soccer Saturday and Match Choice. I LOVE Soccer Saturday, it’s just about the best way I can think of to spend a Saturday afternoon and then to see an uninterrupted hour of footage from the Spurs game is just the icing on the cake.

The top and bottom of this is that the only way for us to watch tonight’s game was to watch it on the laptop on Sky Go. We tried to beam it to the telly via the Hudl and an HDMI cable but the cheeky thing knows and won’t let you do it. I suppose it’s a spoiler to stop you from going round to your mate’s house and beaming it onto his non-Sky telly. Anyway, it was an intimate evening because we had to sit huddled together to see the screen and three of the four members of our family were on our smallest sofa, only Lola was in comfort on the other sofa!
