Longmire Wooden Truss Suspension Bridge, built in the early 1920's and renovated in the 50's or 60's. It is strange that we have been coming to Mt. Rainier for many years, but never knew this bridge existed! The main road from the SW entrance of the park goes past Longmire and continues up into the park. However, there is a road that goes between the National Park Inn and the Ranger Station at Longmire that appears to just go into service buildings and employee housing. However it actually curves around and crosses the Nisqually river over this bridge to an old campground that was replaced by Cougar Rock campground. The old Longmire campground was closed due to the fragile environment and overuse.
