Balloonplant (Gomphocarpus physocarpus)

I planted four of these because they’re a food plant for the Wanderer butterfly. Though the Wanderers pass through from time to time, I’ve yet to find a caterpillar. But the Balloonplants are thriving!

Postcript 2022: Wanderer = Monarch. For a number of years now, Monarchs have been breeding on this species.

The 'balloons' with 'hair' are quite different from our milkweed pods, but in the 'next' image, the seed with cotton-like feathers are nearly identical to our milkweed seed disbursion
