A farm and a dog story

This was a farm of sorts, with what I assume is a well, behind some buildings in the newer part of Diriyah. In the distance is the main mosque, and the gigantic Saudi flag that flies at the entrance to the town. (I had heard it was the biggest flag in Saudi Arabia, but it isn’t; there is a bigger one in Jeddah.)

A short aside that has nothing to do with this picture, and unfortunately there is no picture to go with the story because I forgot to pull out my iPhone and try to take one. But Sahraa and I were walking back home through a park this evening when we ran into two Arab men and a little boy; they had an 18-year-old dog with them. The older dog went back in the car, but the little boy (about 5, maybe) was dying to pet Sahraa, so he did, in fact they all did. She had about a half hour of uninterrupted attention from the three of them. It’s just such a nice experience to run into dog lovers here, and Sahraa really knows how to take advantage of the situation! She kept putting her paw on the little boy's leg, which is code for I want more, so she got it ;-).

Cool picture and story, Helen. It sounds like the little boy knew Sahraa didn't want to shake hands. V

We saw a very similar oasis/farm in Dubai run by "workers" - water is so precious - you got a great POV of this one V

That's a lot of palm trees. Loved hearing about Sahraa and how is she is a stellar canine ambassador. V

Good to hear that Sahraa is still working her charms.
The ruined building could be an old Irish cottage.!

I love your Sahraa story. It is always so heartwarming to hear about the connections that animals can forge. Sahraa is a star, I think!

Great shot of this intriguing looking farm. V

Sweet story - people being people - not defined by their ethnicity.
