Palmetto Island has been in the development and completion stage for many years. Several hurricanes have impeded the opening of the park, and we are sure that more will cause problems in the coming years.

The park is located along the Vermilion River south of Abbeville. It is a naturl hardwood swamp allowing the visitor the experience of "getting away from it all" with the amenities of home not far away. The park was not finished or opened on our last visit - 2009 - but the natural beauty had been opened up, Today there are cabins as well as developed campsites.
